We run free life-changing activity camps to help children living with severe illness

Story

I will be blogging stories from past camps over the next few weeks.

Over The Wall is a national children’s charity. Their purpose is to provide life-changing experiences to children and young people aged 8-17 who are affected by serious and life limiting illnesses. They do this by offering free activity camps specifically developed to foster coping, resilience, self-esteem and confidence.

They give children one glorious week of experiences that are memorable, exciting, fun and empowering, in a physically safe and medically sound enviroment.

Over The Wall is the only residential camp in the UK structured on the late Paul Newman’s renowned ‘Hole in the Wall Gang Camp’. As Paul Newman put it “A place where kids can kick back, relax and raise a little hell”.

It's a magical place, where kids who are serious affected in various ways by their illness or disability are able to meet people who look past their limitations and help them achieve anything they set their hearts on. What sets Over The Wall apart from other charities is that they also focus on the siblings of the kids who are ill. Siblings often miss out on many of the things their peers do and often crave the attention given to their unwell brother or sister. Over The Wall gives them that attention, and also gives them the rare opportunity to spend qualtiy time with other siblings in the same position as them.

It cost around £1000 to send a child to camp. I aim to raise at least half of this amount, although secretly I'm aiming for the full amount. So even if you can only donate a pound, get someone else to also donate the same.
