Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Family Swatkins, including Ian, Rachel, Amy and Pete have all now completed the Manchester 10k run today (16th May)! It was a fantastic day and a great atmosphere and it was an honour to meet some of the Christies Nurses at the charity stand. It was hard work and we may now be aching, but it was totally worth it and we would like to thank everyone for their generous donations.
We chose to raise money for Christies because it is a cause close to all of us and they helped us have a few more special years with our Grandad. The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, treating over 40,000 patients a year. Based in Manchester (just down the road from me!) it serves a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% of patients are referred from other parts of the country.
It provides radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services.
The Christie is also an international leader in research, with world first breakthroughs for over 100 years. They run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials every year. Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on The Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK.
So...please don't hold off on sponsoring us and help us smash our fundraising target!! :-)
