Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Its amazing the mad things you agree to after a few beers in The Green Room at Twickenham...  Now its time for training in the cold and rain before cycling 550km from South Ireland to Scotland to help raise £1 million for Sport Relief and The Dallaglio Foundation.  The furthest I usually cycle is round Tooting Common, so this is quite a challenge for me. Even more daunting is the fact some of the most famous names in international rugby and cricket will be among my fellow cyclists. Just keeping up with them while on the road for seven hours every day will be a major achievement let alone completing the journey. See www.dallagliocycleslam.com for all the details and latest news as the event unfolds.

Your money will really help the charities I am cycling for.  All funds raised will be shared 50 - 50  between Sport Relief and The Dallaglio Foundation, with the Foundation supporting the following four charitable causes:

a) Leukaemia Research - the only charity in the UK dedicated to researching blood cancers and disorders, including leukaemia, Hodgkin's and other lymphomas and myeloma.

b) DebRA is the national charity working on behalf of people in the UK with the genetic skin blistering condition Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). EB is a very rare genetic condition in which the skin and internal body linings blister at the slightest knock or rub, causing painful, open wounds.  EB is likely to affect 1 in 17,000 live births and there are approximately 5,000 people with the condition in the UK.  Because EB is an inherited condition (it cannot be caught), which is passed on genetically from parents to children, first time parents often do not know they are carriers and will have no prior warning that the child will be affected.

c) Help 4 Heroes raises money to support members of the Armed Forces who have been wounded in the service of their country.  The charity enables supporters to "do their bit" to show these extraordinary young men and women that they are cared for by us.

d) The Professional Rugby Players Benevolent was set up in 2001 to provide financial support for players who have been forced to retire from the game due to serious injury or illness, and support players' families in the event of their untimely death.  As an increasing number of players suffer career ending injury it is imperative that the Benevolent Fund continues to grow.
