Story
So, what am I up to?
Well, if I've seen you at any point in the past few weeks then you'll be aware that at the end of July I am taking on one of the greatest individual endurance challenges there is - the Ironman triathlon. This consists of a 2.4 mile swim and a 112 mile cycle, all to get to the start of the marathon (26.2 miles). That's 140.6 miles for those of you keeping score. I have to do this within 16 hours in the beautiful (so I'm told) city of Zurich, Switzerland. What makes this challenge all the more difficult is that I've also given up drinking until the event, which means I can't drown out the pain of running – a shame given that I'm built much better for drinking than running.
I feel it would be remiss of me to do this without trying to raise money for a good cause, and I am doing it for one of the very best. The Linda Jackson MacMillan Centre (see below) has helped the families of a few friends of mine through some incredibly hard times, and I want to say thanks to the LJMC for keeping these guys going through the tough stuff.
Ironman Switzerland, here I come. You'd better hide the toblerone.
What do I want from you?
Simple really, as much cash as you can spare to help this worthwhile cause, and then a bit more for the pleasure of knowing that I'm going to suffer for it. I'm going to be on a bike for several hours (probably 7 or more), and then running for several more. If you guys do not come up with the wonga, then I will email you all pictures of the various blisters, rashes and saddle sores I end up with. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. .
