The Fells’ Angels are back – and this time they’re determined to break a world record and raise thousand of pounds for charity, with a little help from a lot of friends.

 

Two years ago the five West Cumbrian women ran the 72-mile Bob Graham Round, in relay form, and raised more than £3,000 for Hospice at Home. Now they are determined to break the BG record set by legendary fellrunner Billy Bland, who ran the round in 13 hours 53 minutes in 1982.

 

Over the years, many people have tried to beat Billy’s time – but few have come anywhere near. The Fells’ Angels are determined to smash it – with the help of some friends, 67 to be precise. Each of them will run one mile.

 

The BG Round includes 42 Lake District summits and 28,500ft of ascent. The Fells’ Angels and Friends are asking each of the 72 runners to raise at least £100 in sponsorship, which means the event should raise more than £7,000. The runners’ money will go to Crawford House in Newcastle, which provides ‘Home from Home’ accommodation for families whose children are receiving hospital treatment for serious illness.

 

All other donations will go to the North of England Children’s Cancer Research, which was founded by parents to raise money for research into childhood cancer.

 

The FAF will set off from Moot Hall, Keswick, at 4am on Saturday, August 29.
