Myeloma UK is the only organisation in the UK dealing exclusively with myeloma. We make it possible to live longer and better lives with myeloma. Through research and treatments, we find new ways to a cure. Together, we are the cure.

Story

Thank you for visiting the Fight Myeloma fundraising page and to those who have already supported us by coming to DJs VS Myeloma @ Cargo on 7th August.

Fight Myeloma has been set up by the friends of Brian Daley, also known as MOBO award winning DJ SWING of the Boogie Bunch, who was diagnosed with the blood cancer multiple myeloma in January 2003. Brian has now sadly passed away on 22 March, 2006. He was put to rest on April 6th; a beautiful sunny day full of celebration for his life.

By May 2006, Fight Myeloma will aim to raise £5,000 for the International Myeloma Foundation (UK) - IMF (UK) - to help them continue to provide information, and improve and develop treatment in the UK for people with multiple myeloma. They can even help a patient get access to treatment not available to them on the NHS due to postcode prescribing - so your donations are valuable in supporting the only charity dedicated to patients with the cancer known as multiple myeloma.

We are also encouraging donations to the African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT) at: www.justgiving.com/acltfightmyeloma.
They continue the struggle to get as many African Caribbeans registered as bone marrow donors to help save the life of people like Brian Daley with blood cancers.
FUNDRAISERS: The first fundraiser DJs Vs Myeloma @ Cargo, on 7th August - was incredible. The Fight Myeloma DJs held it down with the old skool tracks in a Battle of selections - it was the first time EVER that DJs from rival sounds from back in the day got on the same stage to fight the same cause. Our DJs showed great generosity with their time and their donations; as did our our beautiful crowd who voted DJ Team 2 winners and left the night with empty pockets helping us raise more than £3K!! more than half our target for the night (even though the turnout was poor, it was rich in genuine support for the cause. We even recruited Emil, Rich, Eni & Sean - 4 more skydivers for the group skydive that took place on Saturday 3rd September. The idea is that the skydive and Fight Myeloma donations pages will give everyone the chance to support DJ Swing in finding alternative treatment and government support to help fight myeloma. THE FIGHT MYELOMA SKYDIVERS HAVE JUMPED!!! FIRIN SQUAD - did their skydive on 31st July - and wow, it was incredible; whilst they were waiting to do their jump - few words were being spoken and any jokes were accompanied by tight smiles; next minute they had gone up in the plane...Five mins later... we saw them floating down out of the clouds: beautiful. Their reactions on landing were incredible - if you saw the DVD at DJs VS Myeloma you know they loved it! LE REST who jumped... in order of courage - Emil started us off - he landed with tears in his eyes, then when asked how it was "Just like any other day, really" Hmm!; Roselle Clark went up next confidently - her crew of supporters on the ground; Nicky escaped and jumped with no-one watching (did he really do it? YEAH COURSE!; James Yarde (Bond), Tee Max, Lucy and Rapzcallion went in the next plane load - and as they landed Eni, Shaun, Jen Saunders (screamer) and Marilyn were walking cooly to the plane, and Angela A went last - the latecomer. It was an awesome experience: saliva (Eni & Nicky),smooth landings (James 'Bond' Yarde), the scream (Jen) - even Rick Blk came along, risked his life in the plane with no chute and got to see Eni&Shaun disappear quick out the plane. Everyone had an awesome experience - (even Rapz - who felt ill on landin -long story). There will be EVIDENCE on the Fight Myeloma site by Friday 9th -so watch out!! But we have done so well on sponsorship so please keep supporting! SO - you can STILL sponsor them for being so brave! Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor one of the 'jump to Fight Myeloma' skydivers; EXAMPLE - JUST WRITE: 'I SPONSOR - FIRIN SQUAD' So please sponsor us or make a donation to help us reach our target. International Myeloma Foundation will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Many thanks for your support. p.s.
