SAFE@LAST- the BIG Sleepout · 24 October 2008 ·

SAFE@LAST is a children and young people's charity based in South Yorkshire. The charity provides a prevention work, one to one support, a family support service and an emergency refuge for young people, 16 and under, at risk through running away. Safe@Last is part of the Depaul UK Family

Story

The BIG Sleepout is an event which aims to

  • raise awareness about the issues of Young Runaways
  • raise funds for SAFE@LAST, a registered charity working with and on behalf of children and young people at risk through running away
  • gather public support for this vulnerable group of young people

‘I’m sleeping rough so children don’t have to’

The BIG Sleepout will take place on the 24th October when supporters will spend one night sleeping rough in order to raise awareness and funds to aid the thousands of young people who run away from home and sleep rough in our region every year.

It is estimated that 80,000 young people run away from home each year in the with nearly 4,000 of these incidences taking place in South Yorkshire. Research also tells us that 1 in 4 young runaways spend at least one night sleeping rough.

SAFE@LAST provides vital services for these vulnerable young people but the charity receives very little statutory funding and therefore is heavily reliant on support from the local community to continue its work.
