My story

Hi everyone,

At 6.26am on Monday 20 July 2009 we completed our Three Peaks Challenge in a total time of 23 hours 31 minutes. It was tough, both physically and mentally, but the feeling of achievement as we finished the descent of Snowdon while the sun rose before us is indescribable. We've added a couple of photos taken during the course of the challenge to give you a flavour of the experience (and proof that we actually did it!).

We want to say an enormous thank you to all those who supported us and donated to Macmillan. As you can see, we have exceeded our fundraising target by quite a considerable margin, and the total still continues to rise, so it's not too late! If you haven't sponsored us and would like to, this page will continue to be accessible for receiving donations and adding to our fundraising total.

We would also like to thank our parents, Rosemary and Ken Finney, for their outstanding performance as our support team, staying awake the whole time to drive and navigate us between mountains and ensure our energy levels were constantly topped up.

For those of you who are interested, the climbing agenda went like this:

Sunday - Ben Nevis, West Highlands, Scotland (total time 4 hours 34 minutes)
6.55am - started ascent
9.25am - reached summit
11.29am - completed descent

Travel 5 hours 41 minutes

Sunday - Scafell Pike, Cumbria, England (total time 3 hours 40 minutes)
5.10pm - started ascent
7.15pm - reached summit
8.50pm - completed descent

Travel 5 hours 20 minutes

Monday - Snowdon, Snowdonia, Wales (total time 4 hours 16 minutes)
2.10am - started ascent
4.30am - reached summit
6.26am - completed descent

Thank you all again

Ruth, Rachel, Naomi and Adam

Thank you for visiting the fundraising page of Ruth, Rachel and Naomi Finney.  As you know we are three sisters who, together with Ruth's fearless boyfriend Adam James, are attempting to complete the Three Peaks Challenge on 19th July to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

For anyone who has not heard of the Three Peaks Challenge, it involves climbing the three highest mountain peaks in the UK (Snowdon, Scafell and Ben Nevis) in 24 hours, including driving between each peak. As you might imagine, this is a demanding challenge even for the physically fit, so we are going to need all the support we can get.

Macmillian Cancer Support means a lot to us as we lost our cousin, Sarah Finney, on Christmas day 2006, aged 27.

Sarah had a long battle with cancer, which she fought bravely. Her wish was to be able to spend Christmas at home with her family and thanks to Macmillan help and support, she was able to do this.

Sarah was a fun and caring person and is loved and missed by all who knew her. We want to be able to help Macmillan provide support to others going through the same difficult times as she and her family did.

Macmillan's funding comes 99% from supporters, so events like ours are really important to help the charity achieve its aim.

Thank you so much for your support and we will let you know how we get on!!

Love Ruth, Rachel, Naomi and Adam xx

P.S. Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Macmillan Cancer Support gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
