Ann Dixon and I did a car boot sale on Sunday in 28 degree heat and was once again had a fabulous time and raised £137.  Thank you to everyone who bought from our stall. Fi

Hi Again,

Another up-date for you, we did a 'Ready Steady Cook' Night on Thursday 13th May and raised £160.50 which was great, thanks to everyone who attended.  I think we all had a good time and we ate some really nice food (thanks Tanya and Sally from Cooking Fantastic for all your support and banter, you really made the evening).  I also want to thank Ann Dixon who I could not have managed without, her cake baking and organisation have stopped mehaving a nervous breakdown over the last couple of weeks.

We also did a Charity Race Night at Harrogate Conservative Club on Saturday 15th May which was a great success and we raised £499, thank you all for coming and we hope you had a nice time.

A big thank you to everyone who has supported us so far, not far to go now.  We are at the Yorkshire Cancer Centre Gala at Roundhay Park on Saturday 29th May with a Plant stall, it should be a lovely afternoon out so come along and join the fund.

Hi Everyone,

I just thought I would up-date you on the process we are making so far.  We have been overwhelmed at the support shown to us by many friends and family and thank you all so much.

The fundraising boxes located at Brookside Nursery, The Stonebeck Public House and the Conservative Club are being generously donated to on a regular basis and in the past two weeks we have raised over £70 from the Brookside box alone.

We also held a race night at our local pub and raised a wonderful £220, many thanks to all who came, we had a fab (and very frantic) evening trying to back the winning horses.

We are holding a couple of events in the next two weeks, the first being a "Ready Steady Cook" evening at Hampsthwaite Village Rooms on Thursday 13th May at 7.30. Tickets cost £5 per person and need to be purchased in advance, anyone wishing to get tickets can either visit Hampsthwaite Post Office or contact me on 07766 488672.

The second event is an evening of fun at the Harrogate Conservative Club on Saturday 15th May at 8pm.  There is no cost to attend this event and we look forward to seeing as many people as possible there.  There is an optional £5 supper available should anyone like to have some food.  There will be music, dancing, a quiz, raffle, racing and bingo so there should be something for everyone.  We are really excited about this evening and would love to see everyone we know come along with their partners and friends for an exciting evening.

Myself and my friend Ann did a car boot sale on 1st May and raised £103.60 (which is pretty impressive considering the cold, wind and rain!).  Should you have any bric a brac which you would like to get rid of and would be happy to donate to us to sell on behalf of the Yorkshire Cancer Centre Trek China appeal we would be more than happy to take it off your hands (I can be contacted on 07766 488672/ fiona.burks@btinternet.com).  We are planning at least two more car boot sales in the next few weeks so all donations very gratefully received.

I am also running a plant stall at the Yorkshire Cancer Centre Gala on Saturday 29th May at Roundhay Park, details of this Gala are available via the Yorkshire Cancer Centre website link found on this JustGiving webpage.

Once again, many thanks to you all for your generous support.

Fiona x

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Well, we have filled in the paperwork, sent in the deposit and now all we have to do is raise a massive amount of money by 16th July and walk nearly 100km over a very big wall in a far away land.  Oh god what have we done!!!

Chloe decided, in her wisdom, that she wanted to raise money for a cancer charity by getting involved in a BIG challenge and (obviously) being the perfect mother that I am I agreed to do this challenge with her!

We are doing this Trek over 5 days on and around the Great Wall of China in the Beijing region, over long stretches of restored and unrestored wall and up to heights of around 700m.  More information about this China Trek and the Yorkshire Cancer centre £10m appeal is available at www.yorkshirecancercentre.org/yccappeal.

Chloe chose to do this type of fundraising following the very sad death of her lovely grandma Elsie who died at the age of 86 years young on Christmas Day 2007 not just in memory of her grandma but also as a thank you for the care she had received from the oncology service throughout Yorkshire during the last 8 years of her life.

Elsie was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1999 and thanks to the treatment she received she fully recovered and continued to live life to the full, including three holidays to America and also fulfilling a life-long dream of visiting the Alhambra in Spain.  The best part of Elsie's treatment and her recovery though was that this gave Chloe and her grandma eight extra cherished years together.

So, this is where you come in, please please please feel free to donate as much or as little as you like to this fab cause and lets give some more grandchildren the extra time they deserve with their grandparents/mums/dads/sisters/brothers/unclues and aunts etc.

The Yorkshire Cancer Centre at St James' Hospital is a state of the art facility for helping people beat and recover from cancer by the latest and best means possible but they are always striving for better.  Demanding better care, comfort, facilities, support and chance of recovery for all the patients who go through their doors.

Thank you in advance for your support be it morale, financial or both and watch this space to see how we are doing.
