Begging for money again...I'm sorry...but it's a good cause!
In October this year my mum and l will be climbing Mount Everest...well part of it anyway! All in the spirit of adventure and raising much needed funds for the St Luke's Cancer Centre and G.U.T.S.. This is a huge personal challenge for us, both physically (13 days strenuous trekking from 2,800m to the heady heights of 5,545m) and financially (raising over £6,000 for a very worthy cancer charity).
The funds raised will go to supporting St Luke’s, our Cancer Centre and G.U.T.S.. St Luke’s is an amazing organisation which treats 2,500 new patients each year and fund raising helps to ensure we are able to keep the centre at the forefront of cancer care. A subject never far from my heart, cancer affects so many people in so many ways. It can be a very scary and daunting time for everyone involved and hopefully with a little extra help, the St Luke's Centre can try to make these peoples' lives just a little bit better. G.U.T.S. (Guildford Undetected Tumour Screening) aims to improve the survival rate of people with bowel cancer in the South East of England by early detection and to raise awareness of the disease. In between our gruelling training schedule, we're hoping to do a number of fundraising activities during the year. Including:
- Alison Holt Bolt - 5k run - comleted on 4th April in 30mins and 33seconds – thanks to my colleagues from the Dietetics Department at the Royal Surrey who also bolted round the holt!
- Mum and I (and a wonderful team of brave cyclists) cycled the Downs Link, from Guildford to Shoreham on 11th April - Easter Saturday - we cycled a collective 494miles and thanks to West Sussex fire brigade managed to leave most of the mud we collected en route, in Shoreham!
- Loseley House Great Garden Show cake sale - despite the great British weather there were plenty of people willing to buy our cakes at Loseley and we raised just short of £300 towards the target. Huge thanks for all of your tasty donations.
- More to follow...
