Ape Action Africa is passionate about primate conservation! We rescue gorillas, chimpanzees and monkeys, victims of the illegal bushmeat and pet trades in Cameroon. We have over 280 primates in our care and we can't do any of our work without your help, so your donations are vital! Thank you!

Story

Thank you so much for visiting our page.

Please note if you wish to donate, your money is going directly to Ape Action Africa.

Ape Action Africa have accepted us to volunteer at their sanctuary in Cameroon. The charity asks each volunteer to raise a donation which will not only help with the costs of running this sanctuary but it also helps with educating a greater number of people of the issues Ape Action Africa is facing everyday. Please continue reading to learn about the hard work Ape Action Africa is involved in and how your donation will make such a difference.

Gorillas and chimpanzees in the wild are in imminent danger of becoming extinct due to habitat destruction and the bushmeat trade.

Logging companies are cutting huge roads that lead into once impenetrable forests in search for the largest and oldest trees to export to places all over the world. This has enabled hunters to get deep into the forests on the back of logging trucks, armed with rifles, and kill whole families of primates.

Hunters have killed animals in the African forest for hundreds of years, but they used bows and arrows and killed enough to feed their families.

Although hunting these animals is illegal, the meat is prized as a delicacy and the high prices mean the law is constantly broken.

The meat is often smoked in the forest to avoid detection and to make identification difficult when they return to town. Some of the orphaned primates too young to have any value as meat are kept alive and sold as pets.

This is where Ape Action Africa steps in and actively rescues orphaned, injured gorillas, chimpanzees and monkeys, some only days old, hours from death from poachers and bushmeat traders. They provide them with individual care, and give them a safe forest sanctuary home where they can live with their own kind. Ape Action Africa also works with the Government of Cameroon and the local communities to ensure a greater understanding of primates and the importance of their long-term protection.

With your support, the running of this truly groundbreaking operation in the Cameroon forest will continue to be a reality. Your contribution will help provide lush and secure forest enclosures; ongoing rehabilitation and socialization; fresh browse and nesting material in cleaned sleeping quarters; health checks, vaccinations, and disease diagnosis and treatment; and all the keepers, cooks, drivers, vets and educators that it takes to make this possible.

Small or large, all donations will help conserve the endangered gorillas and chimpanzees of West Africa and help with the running of the project in the Cameroon forest.

So please dig deep and join us in supporting this project.

Please note all donations are in British Pounds.

1 GBP = 1.6 AUD

1 GBP = 1.15 EUR

1 GBP = 1.5 USD

These conversions are an approximate.
