I was a member of a medical team on either Amazon Hope 2 in December 2009. This ship is a floating health center providing basic health and dental care to the people of rural communities on the Amazon and its tributaries.

I am seeking funds for medical equipment and medicines for this trip and also to help with the running costs of the ship. I paid my flights, food and accommodation myself.

Medical teams go out to work on the ships throughout the year assisting the project’s Peruvian medical personnel.  Health education, training local workers, providing access for government anti-malarial teams, and providing clean water and sanitation are all part of the Vine Trust's strategy. Currently they serve 126 village communities and aim to increase that to just over 250 by 2010.

For me, being involved in development work is one of the most enjoyable experiences ever. Now Chris and Rachel (my children) are grown up, I am fortunate enough to be able to spend some time on projects overseas.
