Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
I have recently set up The Christopher Nutbeen Fund to help fund research into Lebers Hereditary Optic Neuropathy which is being carried out by Professor Chinnery's team at Newcastle University.
This fund is in memory of my wonderful, brave and enduring husband Chris who gave up a long fight with secondary progressive MS on 1 September last year aged just 47. I vividly remember the day Chris was diagnosed with the MS he said "thats alright nothing could be worse than going blind when I was 19. It is the greatest wish of myself, Chris's Mum and sisters that he did not die in vain.
The greatest tribute I can pay to the bravest man I have ever known is to do all I can to fund the experts trying to find a cure for the genetic illness which made him go blind.
My first fundraising venture is to do once again a 13+ mile walk that I have done in the past for the RNIB with my wonderful friends Mike and Marie Jenkins. On the 4th July Mike, Marie, myself and another of my friends Shaun will do the walk.
All of the money we raise will go to Professor Chinnery's Research team at Newcastle University.Professor Chinnery said this
'LHON is a devastating eye disease that causes irreversible blindness and hits otherwise healthy people in their mid-20s. Unfortunately there are no treatments for the condition. We need to know much more about the cause of LHON so we can develop new treatments. This is a major focus of my research group.'
Please, please give all you can.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Newcastle University gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
