Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Hopefully you have come to this page because you or someone you know is involved in taking four fully equipped fire engines and four fully equipped ambulances to Moldova. The Team includes : Gary Bennett, Paul McNiven, Ricky Newton, Dr Victor Jack, Graham Dobie, Ken Oakley, Paul Sefton, Rab Forsyth, Ian Mycko, Keith Longworth, Pete Stewart, Mike Sinclair and John Campbell

WHY ?

A great question…

Blythswood Care (www.blythswood.org), a charity that has been working in Eastern Europe for almost 20 years, received a request for help in late 2006 for fully equipped fire engines and training. In May 2007 the team carried out an extremely successful mission to Bajina Basta. A return mission to Serbia was successfully completed in August 2008. In August 2009 we took four Fire engines and two Ambulances to Moldova and provided training to over 80 emergency service personell

As a result of the success of these trips Blythswood Care has received many requests for similar assistance in other parts of Moldova and Serbia

We can only meet these requests through your generous support of the team.

Serbia and Moldova have a particular problem with Road Traffic Collisions (RTC) with no means to respond. Currently they have 1950's Russian vehicles with only hand tools for extrication. These results in roadside amputations which, as you can imagine in those conditions are only marginally better than leaving the person trapped!

We aim to send them fully kitted fire engines so that they can extricate casualties and dramatically improve their chances of survival. We will provide trauma equipment in order to assist the casualties during the initial stage of their care and provide full trauma training and RTC training utilising qualified instructors for both.

Please take a moment to look at some of the training and support we were able to provide on a previous mission.

Many lives have been saved as a direct result of the engines and training that has been provided and with your support this will continue.

A team has been put together under the umbrella of Blythswood Care. They will leave from Edinburgh in May 2011 and drive four fire engines and four ambulances to Moldova .

As a team we would appreciate any help that you can give us, whether financial or otherwise. This site allows you to donate with a credit or debit card and the proceeds will go towards getting these fire engines and the equipment to the people that need them most.

This site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to help us as Blythswood will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Thanks
