Fire Fighters Charity provides care and support to the UK’s fire family. It helps with any health and wellbeing challenges firefighters, control staff, and everyone working in – or retired from – the UK’s fire services, as well as their families, may face - during and after service

Story

In January 2008, our good friend Alan Robertson was involved in a terrible road traffic collision whilst on duty as a fire fighter in Central Scotland.  He received multiple injuries and due to tremedous work by fellow colleagues, paramedics, Helimed crew and staff at Glasgow's Southern General Hospital he survived.  Further work at Glasgow Royal Infirmary has allowed him to return home and start the long process of recovery.

Alan and his family are doing a variety of fundraising activities in order to thank the charities/services that have played such a crucial role in his recovery.  Alan's brother Graeme and a group of his close friends (some runners, some not runners!) are taking part in the Great Scottish Run and will run 70km between them raising funds for the Fire Fighters Charity (through this page) and also The MS Therapy Centre.

Alan has already spent 2 productive weeks at the Cumbria Rehabilitation Centre which is funded by the Fire Fighters Charity and he also been very grateful to the MS Centre in Edinburgh who have opened their door to him where he receives ongoing Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.

We will be wearing t-shirts on the day for the Blood transfusion service which played a major role in his survival from the accident.  He received 72 units of blood and blood products during his stay in hospital, a staggering 22 of those being in the first night.  A wonderful service and Alan would like to raise awareness regarding the importance of giving blood as it really does save lives!

Alan really is a true fighter and an inspiration to us all, his determination and positive attitude has been overwhelming and we fully support him with his goal of returning to work in 2009.

We would be most grateful if you could dig deep and sponsor us in order to support these wonderful charities/services who have given Alan life saving treatments and incredible support.
