<a href="http://fiveoverthree.posterous.com" target="_blank">The plan is simple: Climb the UK's three highest peaks, and do all the driving in between, within 24 hours.</a>    And why???   We’ve all known our friend Pippa for a while, some since she was just five years old. She’s now 16 and in 2009 was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Paediatric Wildtype GIST, (Gastro Intestinal Stromal Tumour).   GISTs are malignant tumours of soft tissues in the stomach and intestines and are a form of sarcoma. At present, there is no cure for this type of cancer, with limited research currently being undertaken in the UK.   GIST Support UK is a charity working with the parents of some of the younger patients on a new initiative called PAWS-GIST (Paediatric, Adolescent, Wildtype & Syndromic GIST). This focus group, working in partnership with specialists in America and Europe, aims to help improve treatment and ultimately find a cure for PAWS-GIST patients in the UK.   Without this kind of initiative, patients like Pippa don’t get access to drug trials and specialist consultations that can make an enormous difference to their future.   So, when someone innocently said "I've always wanted to do the Three Peaks Challenge" it wasn't too hard to find the motivation.    And here we are, six months or so later with only a few weeks to go before we set off.   Five of us will be climbing and we have two brave volunteer drivers. We start the challenge at sea-level at Fort William on the West coast of Scotland on Saturday 14th May. From there we head to the foot of Ben Nevis for 5pm and the clock starts...   Pumped with adrenaline, tea and Joey’s flapjack, we'll be up and down that one by 10pm ready for food and the overnight drive to Scafell Pike in the Lake District. We start that climb in partial darkness at about 4am. Back in the bus after a quick breakfast, we head for Snowdon which we'll summit and be back down by 5pm on Sunday. Then to our hotel overlooking the Menai Strait for food, beer and a lot of sleep!   Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
