FLAG (Family Links Around Grimsby) is a registered charity No 1104978 and a company limited by guarantee No 5037999. It has been in existence for more than 15 years. It was formed following a survey by the Grimsby Institute that found there was limited help for families that have children with special needs.

FLAG aims to provide recreational activities for children from age 5 years to 21+ who have a range of disabilities and special needs. Our aim is to enrich their lives by providing recreational activities, developing social and independence skills and empowering them to play a rightful place in the community. It is FLAG’s aim to provide them with a safe and supported environment where they can meet and play with their friends; these activities take place at Strand Street School under the care and supervision of qualified and experienced staff. Many of the children attending FLAG have very complex medical, emotional and behavioural needs. Children come from Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Immingham and surrounding areas.

FLAG runs a Saturday club and up to four days a week during school holidays it also takes groups of children on away days during school holidays, these have included Flamingo Land, North York Moors Railway and the Rock Factory and many more. At the club’s at Strand Street School, children are encouraged to take part in activities, such as art, sports, board games and cookery.

FLAG provides a respite for the parents or guardians of these children that allows them to spend time with other children in the family or spend time together.

FLAG is inspected on a regular basis by OFSTED and the latest report (2009) gave FLAG a, “Good”, result; the second highest possible. All members of the staff and the committee are subject to Criminal Records Bureau checks and we report to North East Lincolnshire Council on a regular basis
