Far too many of us have felt the pain of losing someone we love. With your donations, we power groundbreaking cardiovascular research to save and improve lives, bring hope to families, and keep hearts beating across the UK.

Story

Hey Guys,

After cycling to Venice this summer, I returned home content and happy (for a day or two!), but then in true Flick spirit, I wondered what I should do next?!  Luckily, I did not have to wait long, as the challenge that I waited for three years to do came through. I have been given a place to run for BHF in the London Marathon for 2010!

As some of you know, I have been trying to take part in this event ever since my last year at school. I have always loved running, just for pleasure and at times the competitive edge, so putting myself up to the physical and mental challenge that the marathon requires is something I have always wanted to experience. This time (unlike my previous efforts) I would like to undertake this challenge for the charity I am very attached to and support most, the British Heart Foundation. I strongly believe in the valuable contribution BHF makes in the UK, both in terms of helping individuals and its support for research into heart disease. Please read below brief summary of BHF’s vision and day-to-day activities to see how the money I hope to raise will be spent.

With your support I shall be continuously reminded to keep going and push myself through the training. I feel that running the London Marathon to support BHF is a great privilege and I promise you to do my best to succeed, and I will optimistically say in 4 hours and a half, or less!!

Thank you for your support and please help me with my fund raising if you can.

British Heart Foundation- http://www.bhf.org.uk/about_us/what_we_do.aspx

Our vision is of a world in which people do not die prematurely of heart disease.

We will achieve this through our pioneering research, our vital prevention activity and by ensuring quality care and support for people living with heart disease.

We need you to share our vision because, together, we really can beat heart disease.

Our Activities

As the nation's heart charity, the British Heart Foundation focuses on three vital things:

  • 1. Investing in pioneering research
We fund around 1,200 research projects investigating every aspect of heart disease - from causes and safer drugs to improving surgical techniques.
  • 2. Supporting and caring for heart patients
We fund BHF Nurses who visit heart patients with all types of heart conditions in their homes. We provide defibrillators and echocardiograph machines for hospitals, emergency services and first-aiders.
  • 3. Providing vital information to help people reduce their own risk of dying prematurely from a heart or circulatory related illness
We produce publications, videos and other materials for health professionals and the public including children. We inform people about how to improve the health of their heart through public information campaigns, advertising and the media.
