Story

Hello Everyone,

Now that I've finished the ride I thought I'd update the page and add a few photos that I took along the way. I've written a ride report of my trip if you would like a copy emailed to you then email me at

stevegoodman@blueyonder.co.uk

and I'll send you a copy.

Thanks for all the donations they are much appreciated. I wish I'd had a bit more time to spend on the fund raising but the whole trip was a bit last minute!

If you would like to organise anything similar please let me know, I'm already looking for volunteers to take part in another cycle next year.

Get in touch if you're interested.

Cheers, Steve.

13/8/11 Day 10 Total LE to JOG 984miles then to wick put it over 1000.

In John o Groats, its a dump. If I'd known it was like this I wouldn't have bothered. Well pissed off. 130 miles today.

12/8/11 Day 9

Expect to be in John o Groats Sunday lunchtime then down to Wick for the evening. Then to see how muchthe train home is. I booked a cheap advance ticket its for Thursday! Don't really fancy waiting around for 4 days being eaten by midges. Near Alness 95 miles today a lot of it off road on the Great Glen Way.

11/8/11 Day 8

Sitting in a curry house in Fort William 105 miles today. Weather looking better. Rode through flooded roads, passed overturned lorries. But its been a good day! PS if anyone going to Croydon grab us a 56" Plasma. (reference to the riots!)
Crossed over Arran yesterday weather was the worst I've seen. Slept in an empty garage managed to dry the tent. Having breakfast in a cafe over looking Tarbet would be lovely if weather was nice. 330 miles to go. Phone signal a bit iffy.

10/8/11 Day 7
Waiting for the ferry to Arran. Might as well swim. Couldn't get much wetter. Rain kept me awake all night tent is soaked, so tonight should be fun.

9/8/11 Day 6
In Carlisle, on the plus side its not raining. Its grim, lots of birds pushing prams. Even flowers look miserable. Putting the phone away now in case someone see's it and I get mugged!!!

8/8/11 Day 5
A hard 105 miles today rained all morning and was riding into the wind all afternoon. Camping up by Shap just past Kendal.

7/8/11 Day 4
2 punctures and a broken spoke, 102 miles just past Whitchurch, bit damp at the moment but the texts are keeping my spirits up, keep em coming!

6/8/11 Day 3
Near Monmouth were men are men and sheep are nervous. Some say the world is flat, some say it is round, I say it is uphill except the bits that go down.105 miles today.

5/8/11 Day 2
100 miles today fair bit of walking, steel hills. Pasties are good! I'm looking for somewhere to pitch the tent alongside the Grand Western Canal just past Tiverton.

4/8/11 Day 1
Cheers all - webpage should be up be updated frequently, they've got some hills down here.

Sunrise over Hackbridge sewage works, sunset over Cornwall. Nice.

Cycling 1000 miles from Lands End to John O Groats in ten days is my target I'm hoping you can help with the other goal of raising £1000 for the Rainbow Trust.

Rainbow Trust Children's Charity provides emotional and practical support to families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness. Rainbow Trust's Family Support Workers join the family in their own home and are there to provide practical support. We are contactable 24 hours a day for families in crisis from diagnosis, through treatment and even after bereavement.

Rainbow relies almost entirely on voluntary donations and through the generosity of our supporters we are able to help around 1,000 families a year.

http://www.rainbowtrust.org.uk/

I start the ride on the August 7th and hope to be on the train home on the 17th.

Please forward a link to this page to everyone in your address book together we can meet the goal!

Plans have changed slightly since I first put this page together. I get the train to Penzance on Thursday 4th August and aim to be at Land's End some time in the Afternoon. I'll make some progress before my first full days riding on Friday. The route hasn't been finalised yet but I will be going via Arran which means I avoid Glasgow, it adds a few miles but riding across the island should be nice!

The return Train is booked from Wick for 8am on the 18th so I will have to make John O Groats by the 17th. As it's getting closer to the time to start I'm getting a bit nervous that nothing goes wrong if the weather turns bad I could be in for a miserable couple of weeks!

I weighed the bike fully loaded and it comes in at 60lbs with only three gears I hope the Cornish hills aren't as steep as I'm imagining. Thanks for all the support so far and if you're reading this please check back and see how the fundraising is going. If you can help get the total nearer the target then great or if you know someone, friends at work etc. who might like to help then please show them this page! I'm going to send a short txt message back daily to let you know how it's going.
