Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Donald Compton, our beloved father and grandfather died on the 19th of August 2013. Donald was very special to all of us. Towards the end of his life Donald developed Parkinson's disease (an illness we knew very little about) and gradually lost his mobility. Donald eventually suffered from vascular dementia, leaving him bed-ridden and unable to swallow without assistance. To see this independent and highly intelligent man reduced to such a debilitating condition was heart-breaking.
In Donald's memory , our family; Robert Compton and Claire Applin (his son and daughter) together with John, Hugh and Felicity Compton with Jennifer West ( his Grandchildren) have set ourselves the challenge of completing the Morrison's 5K Great South Run in October, this is no mean feat as we are all of varying ages and abilities !
There is currently no cure for Parkinson's disease. The donations we receive will not only fund vital research, but will also support the fantastic work of Parkinson's nurses. We have set a goal of £500, incidentally, this amount is enough to fund a Parkinson's nurse for 25 hours. £75 will enable a half day Parkinson's nurse led clinic in the community. £200 will enable 15 calls to the Parkinson's helpline which give vital support to sufferers and their families and £1000 could fund a cutting edge research project for a week. Any donations would be greatly appreciated, however big or small, it will all help tremendously.
Parkinson's UK is a cause very close to our hearts, please help us to reach our goal.
