RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Great North Run completed all in memory of John Turner in steady time of 1h 51m 11s...thanks to all who donated, further donations will be much appreciated....cheers

On 19th September I will be among 54000 folk negotiating 13.1 miles in the most iconic half marathon on the planet that is the Great North Run, this time running, raising awareness and reaping in the pennies for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute, which is in memory of a very close family friend, John Turner, who sadly passed away earlier this year and was a big advocate of the invaluable and dedicated service the RNLI and its volunteers constantly deliver 365 days of the year.

About RNLI....

The RNLI was founded in 1824 and is largely a volunteer organisation. Many thousands of volunteers give their time, skill and commitment so that the RNLI can achieve its purpose of saving lives at sea and also in spreading the word of safety through promotional campaigns, events, education and public relations.

RNLI TO THE RESCUE...

Lifeboat crews
 - Over 4500 crew members in the UK and RoI, mostly volunteers.

Lifeguards - Over 800 seasonal lifeguards. RNLI also operate fleet of inshore rescue boats, rescue watercraft and four wheel drive vehicles.

Flood rescue - Flood Rescue Team is a group of specially trained volunteers ready to travel anywhere in world to assist in flood relief work.

Plus many volunteer shore helpers serving the 235 lifeboat stations strategically placed around the UK and RoL.

Example of what donation will contribute to....

Lifeguard shirt - £5

Lifeboat crew Gloves - £16

Inshore Lifeboat Crew Thermal Suit - £145

All-weather Lifeboat crew Lifejacket - £494

RNLI is independent from Government and continues to rely on voluntary contributions and legacies for its income. Any money you can donate will be much appreciated and will continue to help the committed supporters and volunteers make the charity what it is today.

Many thanks
