BTRC works with a Neurosciences team at Charing Cross and Hammersmith Hospitals (Imperial College London) to promote research into the causes of brain tumours and possible new treatments, to raise public awareness of the desperate need for this research and the current lack of funding.

Story

My husband Corrado was passionate about running.

On 17 April 2011 I will be taking part in the London Marathon with my brother-in-law, Andrea.  I will be raising funds for Brain Tumour Research Campaign and Andrea will be raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The photo on this page was taken two weeks before we found out that Corrado had a brain tumour and he was admitted to hospital for surgery.  From the moment his tumour was diagnosed until the moment he died, in March 2009, he approached his illness with the greatest dignity, strength and courage imaginable. When he was undergoing chemotherapy Corrado used to take chemo pills and then go straight out for a run...

The treatment that Corrado received at Charing Cross Hospital was exceptional.  They did everything that they could to help him and fought for him every step of the way. I very much want to raise funds for BTRC to ensure that vital research can be carried out into brain tumours - so that other families do not have to go through a similar experience.  We lost the most wonderful husband, son, brother, brother-in-law and friend.

In the UK more children and people under 40 die of brain tumours than of any other cancer and primary brain tumours are an increasingly common cause of death in adults over 40.  New treatments are desperately needed. The funds that have already been donated to BTRC in Corrado's memory and those that I raise by running the marathon will be used to establish the Corrado Grassini PhD Fellowship.  This will provide a researcher to support the existing team at Charing Cross Hospital in their ongoing research into brain tumours.
