My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is John Sargant and I am a Sgt serving in the Royal Air Force. I returned from  in Dec 2009 working for the Joint Helicopter Force. During my detachment the Services incurred many fatalities and hundreds of casualties.

As an active cricketer I thought I had an opportunity to raise money for the charity Help For Heroes. I contacted the CEO of Cricket and they have kindly allowed a Scottish Forces XI to play a 20/20 match against the Scottish Saltires XI to be held at the Grange in on 17 June 2010.

To highlight the match a number of the squad will be appearing on the SKY TV programme Cricket AM the week before the game on the 12 Jun 2010.

The game starts at 14:00 and entry will be free or a donation of your choice to H4H at the gate. An Army parachutist will deliver the ball before the start of the match and there will be a GR4 Tornado flypast during half time.

The cricket team are hoping to raise £10,000+ in donations and sponsorship (pence per run scored against the Saltires). I would like to thank Cricket for embracing this concept and giving us this opportunity to raise money for this worthwhile cause.

I have just returned from Edinburgh where we played  a Scotland side with considerable talent. They didn't go easy on us just because it was a charity match. They elected to bat first and a superb display of batting by Ollie Hairs getting 146 No was a great knock. We did take a couple of wickets but that was down to great catches. 249 was a difficult score to reach but at least all our players got to go to the middle and we did last the full 20 overs reaching a respectable 117. We had a fantastic day the weather was perfect and with the help of Cricket Scotland we have raise a considerable amount of monet for the charity.
