Story

Firstly, my sincere thanks to everybody that has helped me to raise so much money, your help and support is greatly appreciated.  Thanks to Macca (Gary McKinnon) who helped me around the Great South Run, the Bedford Harriers Half Marathon and the Silverstone Half Marathon. Thanks also to Mike Hickman who ran with me at Brands Hatch and Cliff Lassnig who ran with us (albeit a few miles ahead) at Silverstone and also raised money himself which he has donated to my efforts - thanks to all of you for your invaluable support.

I am running 101 miles over 8 events to raise money for two charities that supported the family of Evelyn Bulled. Evelyn is the daughter of two close friends, Chris & Anna, which is how I have become involved. In the summer of 2005, Evelyn was diagnosed with two illnesses - LCH and Leukaemia - both of which required heavy bouts of treatment. Some of the treatment involved days and weeks staying in hospitals. In fact, over a period of 18 months Evelyn, Chris & Anna ended up in many different hospitals both local - in Brighton - and not so local - Great Ormond Street, St Georges, Kings College and Royal Marsden.  Despite Evelyn showing incredible strength and courage, she died on 16th December 2006.

I know that Chris, Anna and their children took great strength from the help friends and family gave them during the treatment - and beyond. And the staff at all of the hospitals were incredible so it was difficult to choose which charities to support.

I am raising monies both "online" using this page and offline. All monies donated online will be paid to CHASE Hospice. Evelyn spent her last days at Christopher's Hospice near Guildford, where the surroundings and staff were a great help to Evelyn and her family. Monies raised offline will be paid to CHASE and also to CLIC Sargent - ensuring an even split of funds between the two charities. CLIC Sargent are a charity specifically aimed to support families of children with cancer.

The 8 events started on the 28th October with the Great South Run in Portsmouth - it was hard work and VERY wet and windy but at least I completed the 10 miles without stopping! I then did the Brooks Brighton 10k on another VERY cold and windy Sunday on 18th November, completed the Bedford Harriers Half Marathon on 9th December 2007 - again in dreadful conditions. After a knee injury in January I ran a 10k at Brands Hatch and the Brighton Half Marathon in February. My most recent event was the Adidas Half Marathon at Silverstone in March. On Sunday 13th April I took part in The London Marathon - it was long and tough but I got there in the end in 4 hrs and 46 mins....... "Never again !!!!" Just a Half Marathon to go in May when I will complete the 101 miles that I set out to do.

Using this site to donate is safe and efficient, and if you are a UK taxpayer you can choose for your donation to be increased by 28% by ticking the gift aid box. Whilst the justgiving site do take a processing fee of between 5% and 7% of the gross donation, the CHASE will receive donations weekly and with the gift aid work already done so it is also an efficient collection method for them.

Thank you for taking time to visit my page, and I hope that you will help me to raise my target funds in memory of Evelyn.
