Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page which I set up in Paula's memory for Cancer Research UK.
Paula was originally diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997 and following many months of treatment was in remission and leading as normal a life as possible at work as a nursing sister and at home bringing up our three young daughters.
Last March secondary cancer tumours were discovered in her brain and in one of her lungs. This news was something that we knew was always possible but none the less devastating. For the sake of her family Paula agreed to accept the treatments that the team at Ninewells Hospital recommended to give her the best chance of controlling the cancer for as long as possible. She received the very best care and support and displayed great courage throughout her last remaining months. Paula was able to remain at home until the day before she died on Monday 22nd August surrounded by her family.
Her friends at work decided to enter a team in the Brittanic Asset Management Womens 10k in Glasgow which takes place on 21st May and I happily gave my approval to them doing so in Paula's memory. Unfortunately I could not enter myself (my daughters drew the line about me entering in drag !) so I have entered the BUPA Great Edinburgh Run (10km) which takes place on 7th May instead. I have been training hard for this and am aiming to average just below 5 minute / km (not at all easy at my age!).
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cancer Research UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now and feel free to pass on to family and friends as well if you like, the fundraising target is very flexible - unlike the joints and muscles in my legs at present - and it would be great to see it exceeded.
Many thanks for your support.
