Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am running the London Marathon to help the charity Tommy's. 1 in 4 babies die during pregnancy or child birth and Tommy's invest their resources in researching the causes of this shocking statistic. One of the main reasons for this is Pre-eclampsia, the cause of which is still unknown. However, this is one of the biggest killers of mother and baby in childbirth.

I developed Pre-eclampsia during the birth of my daughter in October 2013. This resulted in me being rushed to theatre to have a forcep delivery. My baby was so traumatised by the forceps that it caused her to be born with a Palsy condition - it looked as though she'd had a stroke.  Though her condition started to get better after a few days, it was traumatic. The worrying aspect of this is that they still don't know why I developed Pre-eclampsia!

2 months into my pregnancy, a close friend of mine also became pregnant. It was such an exciting time for both of us, that was until she went into labour at 24 weeks and 2 days. Her tiny, undeveloped baby girl was rushed to the neo-natel unit and stayed there for nearly 16 weeks.

The family began a roller coaster ride for the next 16 weeks. Despite being told to say their goodbyes on numerous occasions, their little fighter survived and has since grown into a beautiful strong little girl. Our little girls are going to be good friends like us! To this day, we are still no closer to understanding the cause of her premature birth.

This is why I'm desperate to raise awareness and money for Tommys to research what causes these conditions.
