I dont suppose any of you think of me as a runner - nor do I and I AM NOT - but we are trying to raise money for a bespoke ward for young adults with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) and some of the team wanted to run the Sheffield Half Marathon and I could hardly be seen to be sitting at the sidelines.
So my goals are to get round, do it without stopping, and with a fair wind do it in
We are a UK CF Trust accredited Regional Adult CF Centre caring for 110 adults with CF. We have a great team but are becoming victims of our success and are simply running out of space and need to create a ward with at least 12 beds. Most patients in adult wards are very elderly and the facilities are unsuitable for caring for young people who need to continue to study, work, email and contact friends, skype, do online gaming, Wii, XBox etc etc while in hospital AND have some treatment. The treatment requires isolation in a room (to prevent passing infection to others) regular antibiotics by a drip, inhaled treatments, physiotherapy, exercise, sometimes with oxygen, overnight tube feeding or even breathing support by machine. Admissions are hard work and we hope to create an environment that makes their time in hospital as good as it can be.
