Thank you so much for coming to read my story.
Many of you visiting this page will know what happened to our little family 7 years ago, but some may not and in signing up to do this challenge with some wonderful friends, I feel I’d like to share a little of our experience.
Rhodri and I have two beautiful, healthy, busy boys who bring so much joy, chaos and cuddles to all around them. We know how lucky and blessed we are to have Rhys and Benjamin but every now and then we are reminded of our loss and it hurts.
7 years ago we were surviving, overwhelmed by a mix of emotions, true joy at the safe arrival of our second beautiful baby boy, Benjamin, but also dealing with a grief we had never experienced before at the loss of his twin brother, Ryan. Everything that happened with our baby Ryan tested our family to its core yet ultimately we have discovered an unyielding strength and a way of loving each other and appreciating our families and friends like never before.
Sands were there for us, very quietly at the beginning, with practical information and then much more actively over a year later when I sought counselling. I’ve dipped in and out of their help for the last 7 years and I feel it’s time I give something back. Our little boy Ryan has inspired me to do this, he, Benjamin, Rhys & Rhodri will get me up those mountains to raise awareness and say thank you to all the people who work so incredibly hard at Sands to provide invaluable support to families just like ours.
Thinking of Ryan and the way we all suffer loss, I’ve recognised that intense grief is really just love with no place to go, it’s all the love you want to give but cannot.... we choose to give that love to each other.
