Story

Hello. Thank you for visiting my Justgiving page.

In the last 7 years since my daughters, Jewel, Louisa and Milla were born, I have raised over £25,000 so far for charity and taken part in 7 separate major fundraising events, including climbing Kilimanjaro, trekking to Everest, running the London Marathon and cycling 470 miles from Worcester to Dublin and back in 6 days and cycling from John O'Groats to Lands End; 1,000 miles in 10 days.

Friends and family all ask the same thing..."What are you going to do next?".

I'm 45.....I have a hectic, stressful life.....I vowed to stop and have a rest....but I enjoy the challenges and the feeling of achievement completing them brings and more importantly the knowledge the money I raise is going to amazing charities to help continue their essential work.

Fundraising on behalf of charities who are making such an important and valuable difference to the lives of people with disabilities is a never ending process. Disability doesn't stop.

So while I still have my fitness and health and the support of so many wonderful friends and family from all over the world, I will continue to try to help those people less fortunate than myself. People for whom everyday is a struggle.

Our Story

People like Milla, my 7 year old daughter.

Milla was born as one of triplets. She and her sisters, Jewel and Louisa wre born prematurely at just 24 weeks (16 weeks early). They each weighed around 630g.

Sadly, Jewel passed away after 17 days in hospital, leaving Milla and Louisa fighting to survive. Against all the odds, and after 6 months in hospital, 4 operations and countless setbacks, they were allowed home.

Louisa has gone on to surprise us with how well she has grown and devloped. Her speech and her intelligence are amazing. Despite being blind in one eye and visually impaired in the other as a result of her premature birth, she is a bright, happy girl and has fared better than Milla.

Milla developed severe cerbral palsy as a result of her extremely premature birth. She is unable to sit, stand or walk, as well as talk. In addition she had to be fed by a stomach tube (gastrostomy) and needs care 24 hours a day.

Her constant difficulties make life for her very uncomfortable. However, she brings joy to us and so many other people with her warm, friendly smiles and loving personality.

My challenge

I cycled 1,000 miles in 10 days in May 2013. I ran the London marathon, 26.2 miles in April 2013.

Running a marathon is a huge challenge. It hurts. It's such a long way and a gruelling event.

Cycling 100 miles in a day is also a huge challenge...some say the cycling equivalent of a marathon.

Unfortunately, due to a knee injury and an operation scheduled for August 2014, I have not been in  a position to take part in any major sporting challenges this year.
However, this doesn't mean I have given up my charity challenges. Far from it. I have had to reshape my realistic goals to what I can do.

Once I have recovered from my knee operation, I will be climbing on my bike again for another endurance challenge.

100 miles is seen as the 'holy grail' of cyclists. A distance to aim for. A real achievement. Just driving a 100 miles is tiring, let alone on a bike.

100 miles on a bike? Done that. A few times. It's hard and it hurts.

So, let's up the ante. 200 miles. A double century.

I will be training for and aiming to cycle 200 miles in a day at some point in 2015. More details of the route / date will be posted at a later date.

The Charity.

I have previously raised money for the premature and sick baby charity, Bliss and for the cerebral palsy charity, Scope.

I have decided to raise money to help another charity that helps children with terminal or life limiting condtitions;

The Make-A-Wish Foundation

Make-A-Wish is a wonderful charity in that is does something 'special' for those children for whom life has dealt a particularly unfortunate hand.

They grant 'Wishes' for children to give them something memorable, treasured and enjoyable - something they could only dream of experiencing.

From meeting their favourite pop stars or football players, to swimming with dolphins, visiting Disneyland or Santa in Lapland, to having the opportunity to experience driving in a racing car and many other things. Make-A-Wish helps make dreams come true.

These children have suffered and are suffering terminal or life limiting conditions. They endure discomfort, inconvenience and pain every day. They need some happiness in their lives.

Make-A-Wish help bring that happiness to them.

Milla received a wish from Make A Wish in May 2012 and our family had an amazing, never-to-be forgotten week in Florida at Disney World and the Give Kids The World Village; so we have been fortunate to see the wonderful work Make A Wish do personally.

I want to raise money for them and help contribute to giving some of our most vulnerable children happiness and seeing that most precious gift;

The smiles on their faces.

Please help me by donating.

Many thanks.

Tony Frobisher.
