Story
I am currently studying Sport (Health, Fitness and Exercise) – HNC with Professional Experience, at Salford City College, Eccles campus. As part of my continuing education and work experience I am organising a 24 hour football event, for all abilities above the age of 16 years, on Friday 19th May 2017 at Salford City College, Eccles Campus.
The aim is to have teams made up of 7 or more, playing 7 a side (subs as appropriate), for 24 hours continuously. Anyone 16 or above can
register a team to participate in any 1 hour slot, during the 24-hour period.
I have researched this type of event and have approached my chosen charity “Cancer Research U.K”, who will provide promotional products
and support.
Everyone, however small, has been touched by cancer at some time in their lives, whether by personal experiences or via loved ones.
I myself have close friends and their families, dealing with a cancer diagnosis and various treatments. Thankfully 2 are currently in
remission and doing well. Sadly, my best friend’s mum sadly lost her battle in May 2014. Which is why, I decided to support this worthwhile cause.
I am looking for support for this event, however small, from as simple as your time and expertise, to donations for raffles and refreshments.
I would also really appreciate it, if you could put me in contact with anyone who could provide a celebrity endorsement or personal
appearance to gather momentum for this event.
Who is James Macdonald?
I studied to GCSE level at school, went to college and left within 12 months to enter the workplace, which didn’t work out as I’d imagined. After several months, out of work and out of education, I was lucky to be given 2 great opportunities, to attend firstly “The Princes Trust” via
Manchester City Football Club and then “The Dame Kelly Holmes, get back on track programme”, which involved boosting everyone’s confidence and concluded with a community sport project for local school children. This revitalised my love of sport, football. As a result in 2014, I enrolled on BTEC Sport Level 3, in conjunction with Manchester United Foundation. Over the 2-year course I gained triple distinction* level and travelled with the Foundation to Israel as part of an EFDN (European Football for Development Network) exchange programme.
In recognition of my achievements the Foundation also supported myself and 11 others to participate in “The Challenger Sport” programme, where I travelled to Canada in Summer 2016 and coached children in football from ages 18 months to 16 years.
On my return, I enrolled on the HNC course and intend to continue with my studies as well as gaining relevant work experience, over the next
few months.
As you can see, I am committed to my studies, future development and more importantly, this event.
