Story
In 2012 we started raising funds for a local hospice after someone close to the group spent their final days there. The hospice staff were fantastic and could not have been more accommodating. This is when we decided we wanted to give something back to these amazing places and people. To date we have undertaken numerous challenges/events while raising funds for various charities.
Maggie’s Forth Valley provides free practical, emotional and social support for people with cancer and their families and friends in Forth Valley, offering a programme of support that had been shown to strengthen physical and emotional wellbeing. Built in the grounds of Forth Valley Royal Hospital, the Centre is a warm and welcoming place with professional staff on hand to offer the support people need to find their way through cancer. Maggie’s Forth Valley is a place to find practical advice and benefits and eating well; a place where qualified experts provide emotional support; a place to meet other people or simply to sit quietly with a cup of tea.
The next part was the difficult decision....what challenge/event could we take on this time? After brief discussion we decided to canoe 100km along the Spey River from Aviemore to Spey Bay. Bear in mind that none of us have any experience in a canoe on rapids, in fact 3 out of the 6 of us have never even been in a canoe....great idea Wilko!
Anyway we will post updates/photos during our challenge (where possible).
Thanks for taking the time to visit our page, and more importantly, for making a donation to this fantastic charity!
