Story
I have a inherited metabolic condition called Medium-chain acyl-CoA Dehydrogenase Deficiency, or MCADD for short. Not many of you will know this, because it isn't something that you can see nor am I affected by it on a day-to-day basis. It is also a condition that not many people are aware of, alike many other inherited metabolic conditions.
MCADD is a condition which according to the NHS, only 1 out of 8,000 babies born each year will be affected by. When I was born, the condition was extremely rare and it was only by chance of meeting with the one doctor I did, that he could diagnose me. The condition can be extremely serious. Fasting can cause illness, seizures and can even result in death. However a lot of people can go through life with the condition and it never be detected.
I'm not affected by this regularly but do feel the effects on the occasion. I have also been restricted from doing certain things because of the condition, despite it rarely affecting me. I feel strongly that more people should be aware of this particular condition, and I'm sure many other conditions go unknown about too. And that is why I would like to raise money and awareness for the charity CLIMB.
CLIMB are a charity which are trying to raise awareness for conditions like MCADD, and are supporting those affected by them, in a variety of ways.
