Story
Prostate cancer is currently the most common cancer in men, accounting for 25% of all cancer diagnoses. In the UK 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer at some point in their lives and in 2017 one man an hour will die from prostate cancer in the UK. That’s 10,900 men this year. 44,000 men will be diagnosed over the next 12 months and by 2030 prostate cancer is set to become the most common cancer overall in the UK. Prostate Cancer UK has a simple ambition – to stop men dying from prostate cancer.
In March 2016, sports broadcaster Jeff Stelling walked 10 marathons in 10 days, visiting 32 football clubs from Hartlepool United to Wembley Stadium raising money to help stop prostate cancer being a killer. This year Jeff is taking on 15 marathons in 15 days in an attempt to walk 400 miles and visit over 40 football clubs, reaching Newcastle United’s St James’ Park on Friday 16 June, and we are joining him on Thursday 15 June for the penultimate marathon.
Last year, the Strathearn Roadsters Alan & Tina joined Iain and Catriona on one of Jeff Stelling's marathon walks from Luton to Watford. This year Alison & Derek will be joining Iain, ably supported all the way by Catriona, from Darlington to Hartlepool via Middlesborough. We will have a whole 27 miles to reminisce fondly about our student flat sharing days in Strathearn Road, Edinburgh whilst helping to raise funds to support the work of Prostate Cancer UK. Training is on track, with all three of us passing the 15 mile half way target at start of May, and we are looking forward to a great day's walking on 15 June with great company. Please give what you can to help us support Prostate Cancer UK.
