Story
It's time for the big one! I am ready. And I feel proud to be running it for a charity that is very important to me.
I don't think there is an organisation quite like the Samaritans. And I don't think enough people know about them. Or they sort of know a bit about them but they don't realise how truly amazing they are. Samaritans is a free listening service run almost entirely by volunteers. In the Samaritans of Glasgow there are only 2 people on the payroll, a part-time cleaner and a part-time administrator. Yet because nearly 200 people volunteer their time throughout the year, they are open to receive calls, texts, emails and visitors 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Samaritans listen and offer emotional support to anyone who is having a tough time and are there for people when there is no one else they feel they can talk to and for people who feel like they can't go on. They do not judge. They do not offer advice. And it is completely confidential. Pretty amazing, right?!
I have had some tough times in the past and I have felt very alone but eventually I was able to reach out to family and friends for support. Not only am I running this race to raise some much needed cash to sustain this brilliant charity, but I want more people to know about Samaritans so they know that there is always someone to talk to when they feel alone or scared or lost.
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. I really appreciate any contribution towards my target of £1,000. It's an ambitious target, but then so is running 26 miles!
Much love to all,
Amy xxx
