Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Further to an epic adventure in Peru raising money for Save the Children in memory of my Mum I thought it was high time for another adventure to push the boundaries once more.
My dad was born and raised in India and in St Georges Homes (Ketti, Nilgiris)
In 1937 aged 20 he enlisted in the 1st BN The Whiltshire Regiment moving to the Royal Signals in 1942 until 1949.
It would appear that he came to England around the end of 1948/begining of 1949.
From memory my dad maintained contact with a number of friends he made in Burma which i think influenced the fact that he settled in Huddersfield.
He was a member of the local Army Veterans association which was very important to him more so as he got older. I saw first hand the sense of family and how taking care of their own worked. For this i will be eternally grateful for.
My dad being in the army has very much influenced how I view our armed forces the job and the challenges that they face. I recently became a volunteer at Phoenix House Recovery Centre at Catterick as a holistic therapist. It is an amazing centre with amazing people. It is humbling to see the challenges that people overcome to rebuild their lives
