Lands End to John o' Groats · 23 April 2016
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
On 23rd April 2016 Bill Hemstock and Chris Durham are cycling from Land's End to John O' Groats.
Both our families have had loved ones affected by cancer over the last 5 years. We have decided to ride from Land's End to John O' Groats, a 1000 mile trip in 10 days, in order to help raise funds for Cancer Research UK. Our journey through the UK will start on the 24th April 2016, and we will aim to finish by 3rd May (the same year!).
Billy - Since I bought my bike back in August, I have been on a few rides. Most notably I cycled up to Haldon and on descent into Teignmouth town centre I decided to cycle into a curb and throw myself into some railings. All the gear, no idea and a wonky knee. Both recovery from this moment of epic stupidity and the English winter have halted 'training' somewhat. However I will be taking my bike to Florida for the next couple of months to get some miles under my belt. Sure it's flat and warm but those alluring drive-ins litter the roadside. Miles in the legs and burgers in the belly!
Chris - I have been cycling for a number of years now, what initially started as a jolly on a Sunday morning to get out on the moors with Dad has now become very much part of my life. The early stages of training have been slow to say the least.... In early February I had an operation to repair a torn ligament in my knee. Nothing like a small goal to work towards during the recovery; thankfully the consultant gave me the green light to cycle after about 10 days. Leading up to the big date I shall be working in Marseille, France so will be taking my training regime down to the windy vineyard-filled valleys of Provence.
