Tough Mudder - London West 2017 · 16 September 2017 ·

The Ascension Eagles Cheerleaders are a charity based in Newham East London, dedicated to transforming the lives of young people through cheerleading. AEC’s mission is to inspire young people to reach their full potential, while providing the highest level of training and academic support.

Story

The four of us: Callum, Rob, George and Josh came together
(some more willingly than others) out of Callum’s desire for a challenge. He’s getting married this year and wanted to attempt some obstacle and cross-country marathons before tying the knot! Rob, being the best man and asthmatic is duty bound to participate but is determined to register a faster time than his brother. George and Josh are good friends of Callum’s, and like him, crave the opportunity to push their limitations…

Well it’s been decided! We’re going to test our mettle at
Deangate Turns Meangate on the 11th March, a 16km extreme cross country obstacle course run on the rolling hills and woods of Deangate,
Medway. You can check out the course and its obstacles here.

But wait, that’s just the warm-up! We will also be running the notorious Tough Mudder 20km course on the 7th May, Henley-on-Thames.
Tough Mudder is a cross country course packing a punch that will leave you staring at a spinning sky. It takes no prisoners and is a course as hard as they come. Don’t believe us? Click here to see what 2017’s new obstacles have in store for participants.

With four of us running, we thought it would be a great opportunity to raise money for charity. We are all local boys to Newham, and wanted to fund for a charity in our community. For us, the Ascension Eagles
Cheerleaders (AEC) stood out. For the last 21 years AEC has been working with the young people of Newham, offering them the opportunity to reach their full potential through the highest level of coaching and training, community development work, academic support and employment experiences. It is a charity close to our hearts particularly because Rob, Callum and Rosie (their younger sister) have been a part of AEC and have benefitted from its lessons, transforming their lives in their process.

But how will the money raised help the programme? Simple. We
intend to donate the money to AEC so they can continue to develop an education scheme they implemented in September 2016. This will include costs for refurbishment and updating the computer systems, with the intention being to develop a ‘classroom’ environment where athletes can go and study in a quiet area away from the noise of the gym with all the necessities of study in their grasp: desk, internet, and quiet.

We are determined to raise our target goal for AEC so they can expand in the way they support the many young people of Newham they interact with. We are grateful to all those who contribute.

Thank you.
