As the East Midlands’ only hospice for children and young people, we brighten the short lives of babies, children and young people who come to Rainbows. We want them to have fun and make special memories. We are also here to support their loved ones through the most difficult times of their lives.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As I approach the age of 80 I should by now be old and wise but there's time for that later.    Now I need to do something for young people who may never have the life opportunities that I have enjoyed.   The plans are cast, the kit is sorted, I am fairly fit but still training and I am self funding my trip.  I can do nothing about the weather on Kilimanjaro (The highest free standing mountain in the world).   it might be hot and dusty it may be wet and muddy, it will certainly be cold near the summit especially at night maybe 0 degress.  The oxygen in the air is thin and altitude sickness as a result is a  possibility.  Basically it is an uphill walk with a pack on my back for several days, sleeping at night on the rock face in a sleeping bag.  Lots of water to be drunk and carried and we won't mention the absence of flush toilets.  Now I need lots of encouragement and you can best do that by sponsoring my attempt to raise money for Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People.  Many of those youngsters climb bigger hills than I ever will everyday of their lives.
