7 years ago, I took in to my care two World Horse Welfare ponies - WHW Haggis and WHW Jim Bob. Both were part of two separate high profile rescue cases in Aberdeenshire. Shortly after taking Haggis in, a 38inch Shetland, who had feet grown so long, they curled all the way back, I decided to raise money for WHW at the same time as raising awareness of laminitis. Haggis and I, as well as several local ponies and one donkey, completed a sponsored walk and raised £667 for WHW..... 7 years later and I am driving to work and spot BUGGY in a field needing desperate help. I immediately called Sarah Tucker, the local Welfare Officer who was quick on scene and altered the RSPCA, Minster Vets and the police got involved. Buggy and his pals (a further mare and foal and small pony) were successfully uplifted and moved to safety that same day. It was touch and go....but all have survived and are now safe at Penny Farm, being nursed back to health. So here we go......for a charity I am passionate about....I am doing two things. Firstly, Haggis and I (who has recently been diagnosed with Cushings Disease) will be competing another sponsored walk in the Selby area on Saturday 27th August and inviting any local ponies to join in the fun.... And secondly, the company I work for are allowing me a 'volunteering day' at WHW Penny Farm to go and meet buggy following his ordeal and to help out on farm with him and his pals for the day..... So please please donate whatever you can afford. This charity is so close to my heart and all the centres are full of amazing people working round the clock to save horses and ponies all year round. Buggy was lucky. Haggis was lucky. Jim Bob was lucky..... I love them all.... But there are SO many more yet to help! If we could just raise enought to cater for the costs Buggy has attracted through extensive veterinary treatment it would make such a difference..... Thank you for reading and please share! Xxx
