Story
My name is Chloë Ellen Jones and I'm a 16 year old flutist from Liverpool.
On June 2nd 2017, an orchestra derived of young musicians from the North West, predominantly from the Junior Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, will be at the Trafford Centre, performing a flash mob of pop songs arranged for orchestra in an attempt to raise money and awareness for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. Half of the bucket funds raised at the Trafford Centre will go to the charity to help fund vital research to help find a cure for lung cancer and the other half will go towards the victims of the Manchester Arena.

In November 2014, my Grandmother, Vera Stevens, was diagnosed with Lung Cancer. After being told she had a terminal diagnosis with only three months to live, she fought bravely and against all odds, she managed to battle the cancer for eighteen months until April 2016. My Gran was my number one supporter of my music; she attended all my concerts, paid for flute lessons and even when she was ill she wouldn't let her illness hinder her and never failed to sit on the front row whenever I played.
My main aim is to give something back to people who are also going through what she went through. Lung Cancer is the UK's biggest cancer killer, killing 35,000 people a year, the equivalent of 96 people every day. Music can help so many people, and I wanted to find a way to do this. So I came up with the idea of an orchestral flash mob.
Music is a source of enjoyment, and we are hoping that through this unique event people will not only be made more aware of the disease and its effects but also give hope and encouragement to those who are fighting this disease on a daily basis and their families. We want to also take the opportunity to support the families of those who lots their lives at the Manchester Arena and those who are still suffering through injury.
