We stand for everyone affected by dementia to find a cure

Story

Hi I am Chris Graham,

I am 41 years YOUNG, have just left the British Army and I have dementia.

I lost my Dad (42 yrs) Grandad (46) Cousin and Auntie (both 41yrs) due to early onset dementia. My brother Tony is also very much affected now (45yrs). I learnt some time ago that I also have the same gene and would eventually develop the disease. Between us, Tony and I have 5 children and I have a 9 month old Grandson, all at risk of developing the disease too.

Before I was diagnosed with dementia, I decided to plan and complete a big endurance challenge to raise awareness and money for research to help find a cure.  Although I will more than likely not benefit from any future treatment, I want to contribute to finding a cure for people with dementia in the near future, whilst I still can, which is why I’m supporting Alzheimer’s Research UK.

Since joining the British Army aged 16 I have been passionate about sport and endurance challenges. I have now left the services due to my dementia diagnosis – but whilst I am still able, I have decided to undertake the trip of a lifetime

Not one to shy away from a challenge, I won't let a little thing like dementia get in my way! :0)  In April 2015 armed with a bike, a sense of humour and some good old Brit Grit, I cycled around the coast line of Canada and the U.S.A. to raise over £50,000 for Alzheimer’s Research UK - Now I am going tick another challenge off the bucket list and Cycle John O'Groats to Lands End - to highlight Dementia Awareness Week 2017 I will be setting off May 14th. I hope to reach my target of £80,000.

I hope my small wheel tracks will make a huge impression as we embark on this journey, I hope we can trust in your support and that you can be a part of my adventure by following me along the way.  Your donations will certainly make a big difference to the charity and people’s lives, many of which you will know.

I look forward to hearing from you  - see you on the other side! :0)
