Claire's Wickford lockdown Half-marathon

Wickford lockdown Half-marathon · 21 June 2020
Thank you for visiting my Just Giving page.
I was very much looking forward to taking part in the Haven’s Hospices Southend half marathon this year and was very sad to hear that it, like so many other fundraising events, had been cancelled due to the UK Covid-19 lockdown.
By taking part in my first ever half marathon I would have been achieving a great personal goal, as I had only begun running two and a half years ago (at the age of 43) and back then I could barely reach the end of the road without stopping to catch my breath!
But, my disappointment that my goal was not going to happen faded into insignificance when I realised how much was at stake for Havens. Nearly all their fundraising projects have ground to a halt. Charity shops are closed and all the amazing events they arrange in the summer months cancelled too, so, I wanted to help.
I have been using my daily exercise entitlement to continue to train and am currently planning a 21.1km (13 mile) route around my home town of Wickford, which I am hoping to complete on Sunday 14 June.
There will be no crowds to cheer me on and only my running app to time me and measure my distance, but, it would be lovely if you could show your support by donating as much as you are able to.
At the moment, in these difficult times, every pound will count.
Thank you so much
Claire
P.s. In case you are worried, it will be just me - I won’t be running with my dog, she only likes the Park Runs!
