Sarah's Mount Kilimanjaro Trek

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 29th September 2017 I will travel to Tanzania where I will begin my trek up Mount Kilimanjaro.
Over 10 days I will challenge myself physically and mentally, in extremes of temperature and altitude to climb the 5896m of Africa's highest mountain. I will trek through rain forest, rock and glaciers to reach the snow-capped summit on day 7.
I'm doing this in memory of my beloved grandad Rufus Daniels. Before his death in December 2015 my grandad suffered a severe stroke. This left him paralysed down one side of his body. The stroke took his independence and self confidence. His quality of life was severely impacted and he struggled daily.
A stroke can have a sudden and devastating impact on people's lives which can lead many to being completely dependent on others. There are around 1.4 million stroke survivors in the U.K. Over half have a disability and one third rely on others for help, just like my Grandad. For someone who had served in the armed forces and was an independent sole, having to rely on others to do basic tasks was very difficult for him.
I want to raise vital funds so that the Stroke Association can continue to support stroke survivors. The Stroke Association believe in life after stroke and they work tirelessly to raise awareness. They invest £3 million in vital stroke research every year. For every stroke patient in the UK, just £22 is spent on medical research.
