My father, David Nathan, was diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma in late January 2023. Cholangiocarcinoma is a rare primary cancer, originating in the bile ducts. As one of the less common cancers (although numbers are increasing each year due to better diagnosis), there is still little known about this cancer and as a result, limited treatment options.

Surgery is the only cure and can only be undertaken if the cancer is caught early enough. However, with this particular cancer, by the time you develop symptoms, surgery is often not an option and palliative chemotherapy can extend life by only a few short but precious months.

Given this bleak situation, more funding is required both to raise awareness of Cholangiocarcinoma, and to invest in research such that earlier diagnosis can be achieved. Funding for research is also critical to help establish more trials to identify alternative treatment options.  Significant advances have been made in recent years, but the focus is still too narrow and lacks sufficient funding to make the progress that is critical to making more treatment options available.

We are very grateful for all the help and information provided by AMMF which is the UKs only Cholangiocarcinoma charity and recognise the really important work they are doing.

Dad tried to fight this cancer. We, as his family, and with the help of AMMF, explored all avenues and exhausted all options to understand more about this cancer and find out as much as we could about all of the current trials and treatments. The bottom line is that right now, there isn't enough known about Cholangiocarcinoma or treatment options available when compared to other cancers.

Please help us fight this cancer and ensure that in the future, people like my Dad aren't taken away within 4 months of diagnosis and left with little hope.
