Story

I'm embarking on a 12 month challenge to raise money for the Stroke Association, I started the challenge at Great North Run on 11th September 2016.

Why Am I Doing It?
Back in September 2014 I ran my first ever marathon, the Robin Hood in Nottingham, in memory of my Nan, which raised over £600 for the Stroke Association.

On Wednesday 27 July 2016 my Mum (her daughter) suffered a bleed on the brain which caused a stroke, leaving her without the use of her left arm and leg. Intensive physiotherapy was required and will still be required to try and get her back to normal. Mum spent 7 weeks in hospital and was allowed home on Wednesday 14th September 2016, through the intensive physiotherapy she has started to gain the the use of her left leg again but there is still some way to go until her leg is back to full strength. Mum's left arm has still got a long way to go but she continues to make progress.

2017 is the 20th anniversary of my Nan's death from multiple strokes so this, combined with what has just happened to my Mum, has spurred me into raising money again.

What Is The Challenge?

Starting with Great North Run on 11th September 2016 and ending at Robin Hood marathon on 24th September 2017 I will be running 24 half marathons (13.1 miles), 15 full marathons (26.2 miles) and 1 ultra marathon (31.45 miles) in 12 months with a target of 2,000 miles from events and training runs.

The events I have completed so far include:

Great North Run – September 2016
Robin Hood Marathon – September 2016
Worksop Half Marathon – October 2016
Beacon Hill Trail Marathon – November 2016
Canal Christmas Cracker – December 2016
Keyworth Turkey Trot – December 2016
Tunbridge Wells Half Marathon – February 2017
Silverstone Half Marathon – March 2017
Brighton Marathon – April 2017
London Marathon – April 2017
Milton Keynes Marathon – May 2017
Sherwood Pines Trail Half Marathon – May 2017
Rock ‘n’ Roll Liverpool Marathon – May 2017
Stockholm Marathon – June 2017
Yeovil Marathon – June 2017
Ashbourne Half Marathon - July 2017
Race To The Stones (day 2 – 50km) – July 2017
Dublin Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon - August 2017

I have also completed social marathons to make up for the times there hasn’t been a planned event I could attend.

I have the final two events to go:

Rutland Water Half Marathon - September 2017
Robin Hood Marathon – September 2017

Along with the above races I will be booking more leading up to the final event of the challenge which is Robin Hood Marathon in September 2017.

I will also be fitting in runs at weekends to get a half marathon or marathon in if there isn’t an organised event, I am having to do all this at weekends as I am also working full time.

I will be adding more to these so please support me as I run my little legs off.

Thank you.

Dom
