We are a lifesaving emergency service to the people across East Anglia

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

On the 20th July 2016, the Galloper Wind Farm team, contractors and friends of the project are undertaking a mammoth challenge in aid of East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA). We will be embarking upon either an 18 mile walk or a 60 mile cycle ride along the East coast. The reason we are doing this is to help fund the brave work of the EAAA team.

Galloper Wind Farm is an extension of the existing and fully operational Greater Gabbard Wind Farm off the coast of Suffolk. Construction of the offshore project, which is scheduled to commence operations by March 2018, is ongoing. The wind farm signifies a major boost to the UK economy, generating economic benefits for businesses, and creating hundreds of jobs. As part of our commitment to supporting the communities we work in, we are hosting this fundraising event for the EAAA.

We are keen to contribute as much as we possibly can to this worthy cause so any donation no matter how big or small would be greatly appreciated!

East Anglian Air Ambulance

Charity Registration No. 1083876

East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) is a 365-day-a-year helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS) covering Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk & Suffolk. They do not receive regular government funding and the £10.2 million they need to raise this year comes directly from charitable donations.

EAAA play a vital role in bringing emergency pre-hospital medical treatment to even the most remote areas of the region of East Anglia, including people and projects that operate offshore. With a highly skilled doctor, critical care paramedic and specialist medical equipment on board each flight, they are effectively able to fly the expertise of the hospital A&E (even intensive care) department to the scene.

Now operating two H145 state-of-the-art helicopters which are fully equipped with the most modern lifesaving medical equipment, their crews are on duty every single day of the day. From 07.00-19.00 in Norwich and 07.00-01.30 in Cambridge. They serve the people of Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk, and during the hours of darkness they provide a service into Essex and Hertfordshire too.

This year's fundraising target of £10.2m is made up as follows:

  • £6.6m to run the operational lifesaving air ambulance.
  • £1m support costs to provide the underpinning administration and governance.
  • £2.6m fundraising costs to generate the income required.

Each flying hour costs about £800 - this includes maintenance and fuel.

It is a tribute to local people that they support them so generously that they have been able to provide such a high standard of pre-hospital emergency medical care using the very best equipment and employing the very best people.
