UPDATE - I am thrilled to report I completed my glider flight on 29 July to celebrate my 90th birthday and am thankful to all who sponsored me on behalf of Lupus UK.  

I have raised £645 on this page with an additional £243 in cash donations! This makes a grand total of £888! 

I will leave my page live for another couple of weeks in case anyone was to up the total. Thank you again to all who supported me.

Lupus is not a well-known condition - in fact, I had never heard of it until my daughter was diagnosed.  Lupus is an incurable immune system illness that can affect any part of the body and can damage a number of organs in an irreversible way. The major symptoms are joint and muscle pain, extreme fatigue that cannot be relieved by rest, and rashes (often on the face).  The sufferer can develop light sensitivity and be badly affected by both sunlight and artificial UV light. 

The good news is lupus is neither infectious nor contagious!  However, it is tricky to diagnose as many of the symptoms mirror other conditions, such as muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis. 

It would help enormously if family doctors were able to be better informed about lupus and Lupus UK fund research to help with this.
