Muscular Dystrophy UK is the charity bringing individuals, families and professionals together to beat muscle-wasting conditions.

Story

On the 26th August 2017 Three Men from Alton, Simon Hewitt, Richard Littlewood, Daniel Shehan will be completing an Iron man 2017 (2.4 Mile Swim, 112 Mile Bike ride and 26.22 Mile Run) which will be completed within 17 Hours. This is all going to be completed locally, around Alton to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy and Help 4 Harry.

Harry has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a devastating and life
threatening muscle wasting condition with no cure. We urgently need to
find treatments and a cure for Harry and others like him. Harry is a local young man from Farnham aged 7 years old. Harry was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy Duchenne at the age of 5 Years old.

On the 1st June 2013 the family were told the results and their world fell apart. They were told it was serious and more tests were needed but it was suspected Harry has Muscular Dystrophy. Two months later following a muscle biopsy it was confirmed Harry has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Now knowing by his 10th birthday it is likely he will be in a wheelchair and his upper body will then begin to shut down due to this rare and painful condition leaving him locked inside his own body. As a muscular degenerative disease eventually his heart and lungs will fail, almost certainly before he is 30. The most difficult part - there is no cure, it will happen and it is 100% fatal.

There is a large amount of research currently taking place in the UK and abroad but as yet the only treatment is a steroid program to help manage the disease.

These 4 men would like to help fund the research to find a cure to help Harry whether this prolongs his life or makes him live his life to the full without any pain, so that he can enjoy every minute. Please help to support these guys to raise as much money for such a fantastic charity that are finding research for a cure everyday.

Muscular Dystrophy UK is the charity for 70,000 people living with muscle-wasting conditions. They are making a difference today, providing vital information and support to help people live as independently as possible. They are making a difference for tomorrow, accelerating progress in research and driving the campaign for access to emerging treatments.
