We fund long-term, sustainable research to find a cure for brain tumours

Story

This time last year my sister Jennie was diagnosed with a Stage 4 terminal brain tumour. As you can imagine the diagnosis was devastating to her and our family. She was initially told that without treatment she had around a month left to live and with treatment this could be extended to 18-months at best.

Jennie is only 45 years young with four great sons, with the youngest only being 6 years old. For her boys, Jennie has put her body through the wars, so far she has gone through 6 weeks of radio therapy, and 12 months of chemotherapy and counting, with the resulting loss of her hair and the other horrible side effects which comes with these treatments. My sister is fighting hard and continuing with the treatment to keep the tumour from growing. The tumour has since been downgraded to a grade 3 tumour, and although the future is still terminal, with continued treatment this will keep the tumour at bay for as long as possible to enable her to be with her sons and with wishful thinking watch them all grow into men.

As you can imagine there is a feeling of helplessness when someone you love is diagnosed with an incurable cancer and you wish there was a pill that could take the cancer away. Unfortunately, no such cure exists but with continued research with organisations such as Brain Tumour Research, hopefully one day there will be such a cure, so no other family has to go through the devastating consequences of the bastard disease.

With your support on Sunday 23rd April 2023 I will be running the London Marathon in support of Brain Tumour Research. I have pledged to raise £4,000.00 but I am confident with your support I will easily exceed this target. I last ran the London Marathon in 2012 finishing in a personal best of 3hrs 22mins. Although, I am now 10 years older, and definitely past my best, I think it may still be possible with your generous support, to beat that PB or get very close to it. Your support will almost definitely help me keep me motivated to run faster and at the same time help raise vital funds for research into brain tumours. To get the ball rolling I will be putting my money where my mouth is and sponsoring myself £500.00.

Thank you for your support and I look forward to seeing you all in London on marathon day!

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this disease. We are a leading voice calling for support and action for research into what is called the last battleground against cancer.
