Asics Manchester Marathon 2017 · 2 April 2017 ·

The aim of Liverpool Women's Charity is to raise funds to improve the care and support given to the patients and their families. Money raised helps to provide services and facilities above what is normally provided through NHS funding.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My inspiration and drive to succeed in completing this marathon, is to raise money for an invaluable service at Liverpool Womens hospital, the honeysuckle team, in memory of my friends baby boy , who sadly passed away due to being born prematurely at 22weeks.

The Honeysuckle Team provide care for women and their families following miscarriage, stillbirth and early neonatal death. The Team provides practical guidance and information to families, and they help to explain some of the formalities involved and guide them through some of the choices they maybe required to make during a very difficult time. The team also organise quarterly events in the hope of bringing families together who have been through similar experiences to offer each other relief and support.

As a neonatal nurse actually working on the neonatal intensive care unit at liverpool women's hospital, I have directly looked after families who have been through the heartbreaking events at mentioned above, and I witness the invaluable service the honeysuckle team offer. Baby loss is something I Inevitably come across due to nature of my job, and what is incredibly saddening to say, is that I see this fairly regularly. But I was not prepared for what happened In October 2015,  when a very special friend of mine, Christine (who also works on the neonatal unit) and her husband Rob, very sadly lost their baby boy.  Lovingly known as 'BB' throughout her pregnancy, Christine delivered baby 'Robert Christopher' at 22weeks, weighing just 500grams. The honeysuckle team provided great support in the immediate weeks following the loss of BB, and with the consent and wishes from Christine and Rob to let me run the Manchester marathon in memory of their son, I really hope we can raise some money for the honeysuckle team so they can continue to support other families in the future.

Thank you for your support
